May 2026 President’s Blog

Dear Theta Phi Alphas,

As the 2024–2026 biennium comes to a close, I want to use my blog to recognize the impactful work of the national committees and workgroups established over the past two years.

At the national level, our committees created meaningful volunteer opportunities for more than 50 collegiate and alumnae members. Committee members were selected based on national officer roles and through an application process open to all members. Each committee was led by a Chair and supported by a Grand Council Champion and a staff liaison, ensuring strong collaboration and guidance.

Throughout the biennium, workgroups were also formed to explore specific questions and provide research, insights, and recommendations to the Grand Council. Nearly 20 national officers and volunteers participated in these efforts, with membership determined by national officer and staff roles. Like the committees, each workgroup was supported by a Grand Council Champion and a staff member.

Together, these committees and workgroups played a critical role in driving positive, incremental change and advancing the goals outlined in the strategic plan. The dedication of our National Officers, volunteers, and staff, and the work accomplished through these groups, has been truly remarkable.

Thank you to everyone who served on a committee or workgroup this biennium. Your contributions have made a lasting impact and are deeply appreciated.

The following section provides an overview of the committees and workgroups from 2024–2026, including a brief summary of each group’s charge. The charts below offer a visual breakdown of the process for establishing committees and workgroups, including composition, approval steps, appointments, reporting expectations, and key roles..

National Committees

  • The Collegiate Advisory Committee provides the Grand Council with feedback on the student experience and potential Fraternity initiatives relevant to the needs of our collegiate membership.
  • The Convention Committee evaluates feedback from the previous convention, implements changes to Convention based on attendee feedback, and coordinates all activities, events, and communication associated with pre, during, and post-convention. Membership on the Convention Committee is determined by national officer/staff position.
  • The Elections Committee conducts elections at Convention and ensures elections are conducted in an open and unbiased manner.
  • The Future of the Board of Trustees Special Committee was tasked with proposing the most effective way to dissolve the Board of Trustees and transition their duties effectively for continuity and transparency for the organization. Membership on this special committee is determined by National Officer position.
  • The Human Dignity and Belonging Committee serves as a resource for the Grand Council and other committees to ensure our members feel welcomed, respected, and valued, and that all members are provided an equitable experience regardless of background or abilities.
  • The National Constitution and Bylaws Committee reviews the National Constitution and Bylaws to ensure that the document remains relevant and sustainable for our membership and overall operations.
  • The National Officer and Volunteer Appointment Committee oversees the process of identifying, recruiting, and recommending qualified individuals to the Grand Council for appointment to serve in the organization.
  • The Nominating Committee ensures nominations are conducted in an open and unbiased manner, and presents the nominations report of all eligible candidates at Convention.
  • The Resolutions Committee reviews and updates proposal amendments to determine their accuracy, compliance with organizational rules (e.g., bylaws, policies), and validity prior to distribution for Action Without Meeting and National Convention. Membership on the Convention Committee is determined by national officer/staff position.
  • The Ritual Committee ensures that all accessibility accommodations for rituals are documented and communicated to the membership, conceptualizes, develops, and delivers Ritual Education as it relates to history, context, technical instructions, or other education as deemed necessary, and ensures the integrity of the Ritual, keeping all documented changes to ritual for historical context and all updated versions of ritual distributed to the membership as needed.

National Workgroups

  • The Awards Workgroup was tasked with answering the question: How can Theta Phi Alpha approve our awards and provide a recommendation for the Grand Council to consider
  • The Siena Medal Workgroup was tasked with examining the purpose of the Siena Medal for Theta Phi Alpha in the present day, gathering information, and providing a recommendation for the Grand Council to consider regarding the future of the Siena Medal Award.
  • The Volunteer Structure – Collegians Workgroup was tasked with examining how Theta Phi Alpha can improve our volunteer support structure to better support chapters and provide the Grand Council with a recommendation for an improved structure.
