VAR Activation Guide

V-A-R is a workshop that facilitates conversation about supporting our members’ mental health through a three-step process. This workshop can be facilitated during the My Sister, My Friend experience and is available for all chapters and associations. This workshop was designed by Active Minds, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization supporting mental health awareness and education for young adults, and sponsored by the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357), (also known as the Treatment Referral Routing Service) or TTY: 1-800-487-4889 is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations. Callers can also order free publications and other information. Mental Health First Aid

Training course that gives people the skills to help someone with a mental health problem or a mental health crisis.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

A grassroots mental health organization that provides free referral, information and support, runs education programs, and holds public awareness events and activities.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

A phone line to call if you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis. The Lifeline is made up of a large network of crisis centers located across the U.S.
