August 2025 President’s Blog

Dear Theta Phi Alphas,

I hope this message finds you well! This month, I’d like to use my blog to share some important updates about work currently being done by a special committee appointed by the Grand Council.

Dear Theta Phi Alphas,

I hope this message finds you well! This month, I’d like to use my blog to share some important updates about work currently being done by a special committee appointed by the Grand Council.

As part of our strategic goals for this biennium, we’re taking a close look at our Fraternity’s policies and procedures. Our aim is to ensure they align with our current practices and to identify ways to maximize the most effective and efficient use of our volunteers, staff, technology, and professional resources.

During the Grand Council’s meeting in May 2025, a meaningful conversation took place about the future of the Board of Trustees. Specifically, we discussed whether Theta Phi Alpha is ready to consider a motion at the 2026 National Convention in Pittsburgh to dissolve the Board of Trustees, with their responsibilities being reassigned to committees and staff.

The Board of Trustees was originally formed during a time in our history (1930) when resources like professional staff, NPC membership, and access to external counsel and professionals were not yet available. As our organization has grown and evolved, so too has our internal support system. With the strength of our national staff and committees today, we believe we are ready to shift these responsibilities to better reflect our current structure and needs.

The Grand Council has appointed a special committee to explore this possibility further. The key responsibilities of the special committee include:

  1. Reviewing and proposing necessary updates to the National Constitution and Bylaws, and other governing documents to reflect the potential dissolution of the Board of Trustees.
  2. Creating a high-level transition plan outlining how the Board’s responsibilities would be reassigned.
  3. Keeping members informed and engaged throughout the process.

We’re grateful for the leadership of those serving on this special committee:

  • Kristin Henkenius, National President, Grand Council representative
  • Pat Seashore, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Board of Trustees representative
  • Amanda Boysun, Trustee of the Board of Trustees, Alternate Board of Trustees representative
  • Tracey Liphardt, Constitution and Bylaws Lead, Past National President
  • Jenn Klug, National Parliamentarian, Project Management Lead
  • Katie Hartmann, Executive Director, Staff representative

The Grand Council understands this is a significant potential change for Theta Phi Alpha, and we are committed to keeping you informed throughout this process. Questions about this special committee and their work may be directed to me at khenkenius@thetaphialpha.org

Yours In the Bonds of Sisterhood,

Kristin Henkenius
